Nonprofit Management & Leadership Results for 1999-2000:

A total of 154 individuals took part in the first year's programs. Participants represented over 60 nonprofit and local governmental organizations, representing a wide range of major activity areas. Forty percent of the attendants were board members of nonprofits, while the remaining 60% were executive directors or staff. In addition the programs attracted a number of agencies from outside Berks County.

Based on progam evaluations completed by the participants:

  • 100% felt the information would be useful in fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • 92% thought the quality of programs was excellent or good.
  • 79% anticipated making changes in their managing and operating procedures

1999-2000 Workshop Summary:

The Nonprofit Management & Leadership Program conducted its first workshop series entitled, "Managing for Excellence, Leading with Vision." Workshops provided a cencentrated overview of the following topics:

  • Developing Dynamic Boards
  • Marketing and Promoting with Mission
  • Ethics in Nonprofit Management
  • Outcome Measurement
  • Compensation and Benefits

The Center was also pleased to host the Peter Drucker Foundation's workshop, "Excellence in Performance: The Courage to Lead," – a study in organizational self-assessment for nonprofit board members and executive directors.

In addition, the Center hosted "Building Relationships with Your Elected Officials" with the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations. This interactive presentation and panel discussion provided an introduction to Pennsylvania laws, rules and regulations affecting nonprofits.
