Heidelberg Township

Heidelberg Township was established in 1734. It was named for Heidelberg, a beautiful old university town located in southern Germany from where some of the early settlers had emigrated.

The township was home to Conrad Weiser. In the mid 1700s, he served as peacemaker between the settlers and Indians and is credited as being a co-founder of the county of Berks. His homestead is now part of Conrad Weiser Memorial Park.
