Robesonia
is a beautiful, quiet borough, .9 miles in size with a population of 2,036.
It is located 12 miles west of Reading and is intersected by Route 422
and the Norfolk Railroad tracks. It is in the Conrad Weiser school district.
A
new borough hall houses and supports a police department with two full-time
and several part-time officers and an active community library.
There
is a very active Parks & Recreation Board that sponsors a playground program
every summer with paid staff. There is also a tot lot, tennis court, basketball
court, baseball diamond (with spectator seating), and a pavilion surrounded
by a large recreation area.
A
sizeable mix of older homes along "Main Street" (Penn Avenue) provides
an interesting streetscape. The southern portion of the borough encompasses
two newer residential developments, Conrad Weiser Village and Furnace
Knoll, as well as two small retirement facilities, Furnace Creek
Manor for independent residents, and Golden Ridge for assisted
living needs.
Robesonia
was settled around an iron ore furnace and named after the owner, Henry
P. Robeson, who developed the area in 1855. The Robesonia Furnace Historic
District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
