Borough of West Lawn

The ground on which the Borough of West Lawn is situated was originally purchased from the Indians in 1732 by German settlers. The purchase price included clothing, materials, tools, tobacco, rum, money, guns, and ammunition.

As more settlers arrived, the open farmland developed into a small community known as Intervilla. The town grew very fast during the building boom of 1920-23. West Lawn was incorporated as a borough on June 23, 1923. It covers 128.7 acres.

The municipal building is made of white limestone. Original plans called for the building to be built from bricks, but during excavation, ample limestone was found and used for the municipal building.

Presently, West Lawn Borough remains primarily a residential community, with a concentration of commercial establishments along Route 422. The borough contains two churches, a playground, and a library in newly-renovated quarters within Borough Hall.
